What’s Happening at Women’s Huron Valley?
The Prisoners of WHV have been struggling since the 80s against inhumane conditions caused by over crowding, sexual abuse, medical neglect, poor food & water quality, and condemned prison infrastructure
A multitude of lawsuits have been filed against the prison for sexual abuse, scabies outbreaks, and black mold infestations.
In 2016, ACLU Michigan investigated WHV for abuse.
Since November 2025, 6 women have been killed due to systemic medical neglect at WHV. Countless others have lost their lives throughout the years due to the murderous conditions at Women’s Huron Valley.
Krystal Clark, among many others are still fighting for their lives inside the facility, continuously facing abuse, medical neglect, and retaliation for speaking out against the prison.
Connecting past Michigan Prison Rebellions to WHV
Prison rebellions happened during recessions, during which the population of working and poor people became even poorer, resulting in more people being sent to jail and prison.
Like today, overcrowding, poor food & water, abuse, and medical neglect, worsened conditions and sparked the powder keg of rebellion.
September 9th 2016, on the anniversary of the Attica Rebellion in New York, prisoners held in Kinross Prison who worked in the kitchen, laundry, maintenance, and yard units organized a labor strike in revolt against the intentional denial of fresh and healthy food & water, medical neglect, abuse, racism, and the exploitative wages – abuses that are still rampant today at WHV, throughout MDOC Prisons and the US Carceral System.
